I am like my Grandmothers!

It has come to my attention lately that as I make bears I am getting more and more like my grandma...ok really like both grandmas. My grandmas were very talented semstresses...they both made clothing for their children as they were growing up, quilts for decoration and necessities, and later on as we grandkids came along, they made toys. I follow in their footsteps by making toys, and soon purses!

Recently I decided to go through my Grandma Dodd's old sewing stuff that my mom had kept in her attic. Mom and I had a great time that evening going through grandma's things. I found many little odds and ends that will come in handy as I'm making things....but I have to say the greatest thing I found was one of Grandma's hand made patterns...the pattern was a teddy bear she had made me when I was 12 or 13. I was so excited-in a way it was like a sign!

I confessed to Mom that although I liked the bear, it wasn't what I had wanted. After all I was a young girl that liked hair bows and nail polish and all that girly stuff then. I was growing up, I didn't want a teddy bear. But now that bear and its pattern is a very treasured item I will keep with me in my craft room.
I feel like this was a sign from Grandma telling me to go for it, follow my dreams...I can succeed if I only try. I miss my Grandma's every day, but I know they are with me every time I follow a dream, every time I pick up my needle and thread.
